Gems from the pastTaken from Kart and Superkart August 1987 inside cover RAC MSA NEWS Cadet Class The practice of lifting the karts on the start line, prior to racing is prohibited. The use of side-pods in any shape or form is prohibited in 1987 I think this was aimed at us although we were not named, Leon jnr was racing at Clay, going into Billy's another kart got his wheel in side of Leon's and flipped him I saw my eldest go down the track on his helmet with the kart on top of him. His father said don't worry it wont happen again, When we got home he made side-pod and a nose cone for the kart. The next weekend we turned up at the meeting and were told if we didn't take the pods and cone off we couldn't race, the rest you know. Comer 60cc Engines The crankcase of the homologated Comer 60cc engine is of the finned type. In consequence, crankcases of the non-finned type will become inadmissible. The manufacturers-Comer SPA- have stated in writing to the RAC MSA that they will replace, free of charge, any non-finned Comer 60cc crankcases with the 1987 type. Drivers must, by arrangement, return as soon as possible, the non-finned crankcases fully stripped to the Comer distributors - Zip Karts, who will be pleased to exchange them This offer closes on 31st December 1987
Company ProfileSoixante Racing is now well established as specialist in the world of kart racing engines. However we have been in engine development for over 35 years. Soixante is a true family firm being joined by the youngest member of the family Tim. Tim is known for his knowledge of the Tillison carbs and using his flow bench can tell how efficient your carb really is. Soixante is constantly developing kart engines for the cadet drivers who undoubtedly some will be the F1's stars of tomorrow. See our page on hall of fame. Leon's snr first kart was a Tro kart with a Clinton engine at the age of ten. His fathers driver Tom, would take Leon into the Royal Forest of Dean and he would race it around the tracks. Leon then went onto two wheels, successfully tuning his TZ Yamaha's to take himself to two 350 cc Motorcycle Championships in 1972/73 and lays claim to many lap records. Such was his success he became a full time engine builder and tuner. Turning full circle, in 1987 Leon Lerego jnr was one of the first cadet drivers on the scene. Sunday April 5th 1987 saw the first meeting of the cadet class held at Little Rissington in the Cotswold's, long awaited with great excitement and a big step forward for motor sport. The new class had an entry of three youngsters all very keen to get out onto the track to race. The final ended, 1st place went to Leon Lerego jnr [99], 2nd place to Bren Raweel [69], 3rd place to Darren Wells [21]. This was the start of a whole new way of life [mobile]. For nearly two years the family travelled up, down and across the country racing cadets with a winning streak that never gave up. When Leon jnr left the cadet class for the junior class his engines were quickly snapped up by John Button for Jenson, we all know what he's doing now. As you can see the Lerego family have been involved with cadets from the very start.
Our MissionIs to promote Soixante in all Kart Classes
