Elliott Patrick Wins in Style!

Elliott Patrick, 11, became the 2007 UAE National Champion in the Cadet Karting finals held during last weekend at the Dubai Autodrome.  Races were re-scheduled to start at 6pm due to the heat and for most it was the first time the karters had raced under the lights of the stadium. Elliott Patrick won the Championship in style coming first in all 4 heats. Needless to say, with a hungry pack at his heels, Elliott had to work hard to fend off the competition and get the checkered flag to secure the championship title.  Tony Edwards Motors said  “ We are all very proud of Elliott.

Elliott, sponsored by Tony Edward Motors, will be going up to the Junior class next season having won the Kadet championship this year and come in 2nd place last season. Tony fromHe has put in a lot of hard work and practice to win the championship.  I don’t think anyone realises the level of commitment that’s required to win this event. Elliott practices most weeks, in between his karate, tennis lessons and school work, and his dad spends quite sometime in the garage getting Elliott’s kart tip-top for the big day! “ We managed to get a word with Elliott after his big race “It’s a great feeling to win the championship and I would like to thank Tony Edward Motors for sponsoring me this season.  I have had the best looking kart on the track every race –- Tony sprays my pods in his body shop and my kart always looks like new!  It has been a great season for me and I am up for the challenge of racing with the Juniors next season.” We all wish Elliott the very best and are sure that we will see a lot more of him in the future!

Peace closes out cadet career on ultimate high.

BRDC Stars of Tomorrow ace James Peace has completed his karting apprenticeship in cadets in formidable fashion, truly going out with a bang as he wrapped up the Shenington Club Championship two rounds early.

At the wheel of his Soixante-powered Zip Blade, James thoroughly dominated the meeting, smashing the existing lap record along the way and all this despite the presence of such big-hitters as Stars' cadet vice-champion Alexander Albon and Roy Johnson. His triumph was richly-merited after a determined effort year-long, and the way in which he achieved it quite staggering.

Helen Horner will be racing in aid of great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, for her website www.penniesforpoints.co.uk   All money raised goes to Great Ormond Street s. un-confirmed as yet, Men & Motors Llandow Helen scored around 140 points from round 1 and 2, finishing in 11th in the first race and 7th place in the second. Hi my name is Helen, I’m 12 years old and I am raising money for Great Ormond Street by asking you to sponsor me for each point I score in the MOTORS TV UK KARTING CHALLENGE 2007, I have been driving cadet karts for 2 years now. This will be my first time driving in the challenge and I hope to score over 300 points. We have included as much information on this web-site to help you consider sponsoring me. If you require any further information please contact us. Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals. Every year, their specialist doctors and nurses care for more than 100,000 children. These children are often suffering from the rarest, most complex conditions. Pennies for points is in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSHCC) registered charity 235825, whose aims are to raise more than £168 million over the next six years to keep the hospital at the forefront of children’s medicine. Our aim is to raise money for (GOSHCC) through sponsorship for each point that Helen scores in the Motors TV UK Karting Challenge 2007. We hope that by asking a lot of people for a small amount we can raise the total per point well into the pound figure and beyond. Each round of the Karting challenge will be shown on Motors TV, so you can follow my progress throughout the year. This site will also give up to date information on our progress throughout the year so you can see how much money we are raising per point scored. The site will also serve as a point of reference for you to introduce more sponsors by e-mailing this link to others.

Young Irish Karting Star John Norris was rewarded for his remarkable season north of the border recently. The Cadet driver was presented with the following NI winter series, 5 Nation Championship and the Ulster Cup Championship. In addition to all this he was called up to collect a trophy for the most wins in 04 and to collect the Junior Driver of the Year award also. John who has already started testing for his assault on Rookie next season was delighted with his haul. Adding these to his MSI, Southern and Munster titles John can look forward with good reason to the 2005 season.

Thompson’s Super One Performance

It’s been a heady year for 12-year-old Donabate kart racer Gary Thompson who has emerged as a front runner in the UK Super One and Stars of Tomorrow Cadet series. Thompson went within two corners of securing a podium finish at Shenington, Oxfordshire in last Sunday’s penultimate round of the Super One series until he was cruelly robbed by the actions of another competitor. Thompson was knocked off track and out of third place within sight of the chequered flag by the fifth placed driver who was heavily penalised for the move. However, Thompson had the consolation of setting second fastest lap of the race, just three thousandth’s of a second shy of the new lap record. The performance is confirmation of the progress that he has made since moving to race in the important nursery series for up and coming racing stars in Britain this season with the team run by the renowned engine preparation experts, Soixante. After winning the Kirkistown Winter Series championship in Northern Ireland, Thompson turned his attention to the Super One and Stars of Tomorrow series where, as the only Irish competitor in both championships, he has quickly established himself as one of the fastest drivers in the series which have produced the likes of F1 star Jenson Button. He is currently eighth in the Super One series which concludes at Larkhall, Scotland, in September and but for his misfortune in Shenington would have been fifth in the standings. Nevertheless, Thompson is delighted with his season so far and thrilled to be running at the front of such competitive series. “It’s been a fantastic year,” says Gary. “I’ve really enjoyed racing at all the tracks in Britain against all the big teams. “If I could get a win before the end of the year that would be a dream come true.” His next outing is at the Kart Masters event at PF International in Lincolnshire next weekend followed by the next round of the Stars of Tomorrow series at Three Sisters circuit near Wigan on the 8th of August. For next season Thompson and his father and mentor Noel, are considering a move to the Junior ICA category which 12 year-olds for the first time next season.

CLAY PIGEON  Round 4 Super 1

Tom Joyner spectacular crash in Saturdays practice. Super 1s round 4 was held at Clay Pigeon nr Yeovil on the weekend. When exiting the esses the kart no 60 driven by Tom went in to a mid air spin rising some 8 foot to 10 foot from the ground, throwing Tom clear before coming to a stand still. Now with Toms no 1 chassis a mangled pile of scrap he had no choice but  to race his no 2 chassis. After being checked out by the paramedics, Tom was giving the all clear to carry on with his practice for the day. A little bruised on Sunday the gritty Essex Lad finished in 2nd and took his place on the podium along side 1st place man Jordan Lennox-Lamb also driving a Soixante powered W60 Comer.

Good all round weekend for the Awning on the whole, with Joe Boullen taking 5th Gary Thompson taking 7th & James Thorp taking 9th in the final.

Gary Thompson, who started 6th on the grid for the final. At one point it looked as if all Gary's hopes we lost as he was pushed out wide at Billy's Blind. From last place and some with the laps that he had left, Gary fought back to gain a credible 7th place.

Llandow Stars of Tomorrow  Round 3

3 Sisters, Wigan  Round 1 Super 1

What a fantastic weekend the awning had at Wigan. All testing on Friday was going as planned until the last but one test session. As Tom Joyner and Lewis Hall tried in vain to miss a spinning kart they collided with each other, resulting in both of them taking a trip to Wigan A&E for a check over. Tom and his dad, Chris had a sleepless night. Taking another trip to the Hospital on Saturday morning to double check his wrist. All was well and with a stockinet on his arm he was determined to get back out on the track for Saturday afternoon. Tom was straight back on it, unfortunately the accident took it toll, lack of sleep and the strength in Tom's wrist could not manage a whole days full on racing.

John Norris traveled from his home in Ireland for the first round of the Super 1 at Wigan. Having only been to the track once last year. John did a sterling job for Soixante, in his quiet manor he drove his way through the field to secure a 7th place in the final and earn himself 76 point to go into the next round.

When the final grids were posted Joe Boullen was well placed sat 3rd on the grid with Jimmy Galloway directly in front of him. Joe could have only bettered that by having pole himself. The lights changed and Joe tucked himself in behind Jimmy and away they both went. Superb racing from both Joe and Jimmy. Congratulations to Joe on your podium finish and Congratulations Jimmy Galloway on your win. If Sunday's racing is anything to go by, we look forward to good entrainment in the W60 cadet class.

Can we (Soixante) say how proud we were with Joe, Tom and John and the effort they put in to making the Soixante awning such a success on its first outing.            What Stars you are.

High days, WET DAYS  & NIGHTS   How many of you have raced all weekend in the wet and spent all of the nights trying to dry Race suits, gloves, coats etc. for the next day? I have and I know I'm not on my own. I would gladly put 50p in a tumble dryer to have a dry gloves & coat to put on in the morning.  Well here it is I have spoken to a few clubs about having a few tumble dryers at the tracks and most have said its a good idea and have been in support of them. They need more feed back from the competitors, please give your views and email me, tell your friends to email me, tell them to tell their friends to email me  diana@soixante.co.uk . I am sure it will happen.

Race Summary Rissi 6th March 2004

The new season commenced on March 6th after a 5 month extended winter break. This season is to consist of 9 meetings with all drivers able to drop their worse scoring final and their 4 worse heat scores. Hopefully this will help to produce a full and challenging karting season.
After a perfect dry March Saturday race day was changeable, after the early 3-4 heats the day was dry until the finals started. With all of the finals being run in wet conditions this ensured that any lap records were not going to be broken.
Dean Hale was awesome in the final leading from start to finish after starting in pole positio
